Cheer Team Tryouts

PHSC cheerleaders

PHSC will conduct cheerleading tryouts for the 2015-16 season on June 5 and 6 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Physical Fitness Center on the West Campus. Prior to the tryouts, there is a mandatory tryout meeting on June 1.

Process

The head coach will organize cheer tryouts. Each tryout participant is required to run one mile in 12 minutes or less on the first day of tryouts. PHSC cheer team members who resign from the team or are terminated from the team, are not eligible to tryout for the following season. In order to tryout, current college students must have a minimum 2.00 cumulative GPA.

The tryout cheer will be taught on June 5, the first day of tryouts. The final tryouts in front of the judging panel, will take place on June 6. Participants will need to perform a dance in front of the panel as well. Everyone must attend both days of tryouts and the tryout meeting. Candidates will be chosen on cheerleading ability and attitude. The candidates with the top scores will be placed on the PHSC cheer team. There is a $15 tryout fee for all participants.

Requirements

  • Cheer - Will be taught on the first day of tryouts
  • Dance - Female participants need to come prepared with one dance
  • Jumps
  • Stunts - Flyers should be willing to full down from one-legged stunts and willing to try many new stunts. Bases should be able to base all advance stunts and have experience in basing. Back spots should be able to back all advance stunts and have experience in back spotting.
  • Tumbling - Highly recommended
  • Males - Toss to hands is preferred

Note: Cheerleaders should wear black cheerleading shorts and a black sports bra or white T-shirt.

Guidelines

  • Incoming freshmen, returning sophomores, dual enrollment students, university students taking classes at PHSC and transfer students in good academic standing may tryout. Everyone must take at least three credit hours per semester.
  • For safety reasons, females and males should be in optimum health. A physical examination is required for anyone who makes the team.
  • Tryouts are closed to the general public.
  • Tryouts will be held at the Pasco-Hernando State College West Campus in New Port Richey, in the Physical Fitness Center.
  • In order to tryout, you must turn in the emergency contact waiver, signed Medical Release Waiver, tryout application and a $15 (cash) tryout fee on or before the team tryout date. No exceptions! You will receive all the needed paperwork at the tryout meeting on June 1.

All cheerleaders interested in tryouts are required to come to meeting unless coach approves the absence. All required paperwork will only be available at the tryout meeting.

Cheerleaders will learn cheer required for tryouts, run one mile in under 12 minutes, do an interview with the coaching staff, tumble, stunt, jump and perform other tasks required for tryouts.

Tryout Day 2
June 6, 2015 beginning at 9 a.m.

West Campus

Cheerleaders will arrive at the Physical Fitness Center at 9 a.m. to tryout in front of the panel of judges. Cheerleaders will be asked to perform the cheer that was taught, a dance that the cheerleader has choreographed, jumps, stunts and tumbling.
