Sophia Haddad, a cheerleader since the age of four, brings her passion for cheerleading and extensive choreography and gymnastics experience to her newest role as head coach of the PHSC 2014/15 cheer team. Haddad served as assistant coach/choreographer in 2013/14 where the team won Silver at the Florida State Championship Competition in February 2014.
In 2009, Haddad, as a student, helped reinstitute the College's cheerleading program, which had been non-active for quite some time. She corralled team members, located a qualified coach and held the team captain and choreographer role for two years prior to taking on that role at the University of Alaska during her undergraduate studies.
In her second year on the team (2010/11—the first year at competing level), Haddad and her team won the American Open National Championship College Cheer Level 6 Division held in Orlando, Fla. As head coach, Haddad hopes to regain that title.
Haddad received her Associate in Arts degree from PHCC in May 2011 and her Bachelor of Arts in broadcast journalism in May 2013 from the University of Alaska, Fairbanks.
Haddad is a native of Tampa, Fla. Her love of cheerleading started at LaFleur’s Gymnastics. She also cheered for the Tampa Bay Youth Football League prior to cheering for Land O’ Lakes High School and Sunlake High School where she was team captain. Haddad has been a cheer camp instructor and was assistant coach for Hudson High School and a local little league team.
In addition to cheer team head coach, Haddad is a recruiter/promoter specialist for the Florida TRADE Grant at PHSC. She also enjoys bike riding, kayaking and quality time with her family.
