This course provides an introductory overview of the criminal justice system. The foundation and basic components of law are studied, with specific focus on officer application. Court procedure and testimony are examined and civil and criminal liability of officers are studied. Specific topics for correctional officers include history and philosophy of corrections and inmate rights and responsibilities. Objectives are addressed as specified by the Criminal Justice Standards and Training Commission.
