Message from the President

Katherine M. Johnson, President

Welcome to Pasco-Hernando State College

Congratulations! Thank you for wisely selecting PHSC as your college. You have made an exciting decision as PHSC continues to grow and expand. In January 2014, our college transitioned from a community college to Pasco-Hernando State College. Now approved to offer baccalaureate degrees, PHSC introduces a Bachelor of Science in Nursing and a Bachelor of Applied Science in Supervision and Management, to begin August 2014. We also continue to develop new associate degrees and workforce programs to meet the specific demands of local employers.

Our fifth full-service campus, the Porter Campus at Wiregrass Ranch, opened in January 2014 in Wesley Chapel with more than 1,600 students. Now in our 42nd year of operation, PHSC enrolls approximately 15,000 students and contributes more than $240 million to the region's economy annually. We anticipate additional growth as we continue to expand programs and opportunities throughout Pasco and Hernando counties. With new developments on the horizon, PHSC embraces innovation and seeks to provide the highest level of educational services throughout our service district.

Whether students have a clear academic plan or are considering career options, PHSC provides customized assistance and support. Guidance is available for students who wish to fast track college coursework and for those who may benefit from additional academic support services and counseling.

According to many studies, involved students are successful students. Each campus has an active student government association, intramural sports and activities and many honors, service and social organizations. Extracurricular activities build positive relationships with peers and enhance the college experience. Work hard, get involved, hone leadership skills, form new friendships, attend our many interesting cultural and educational events and challenge yourself.

Also remember, it is common to face challenges along the way. If you encounter academic or personal hardships that compromise your plans, please seek assistance immediately. If you become unsure of your direction, speak with an advisor who can help you explore suitable options.

PHSC embraces a simple motivational statement: Imagine • Believe • Achieve.

What is your vision for your future? Imagine it. Believe in your potential. And most certainly, you will achieve your dreams.

Someday soon, I hope to congratulate you again—as you complete your degree or program and join the ranks of our more than 36,000 alumni. Until then . . .

Best wishes for a happy and successful academic year.
