EPI Application Process

Step 1
If you meet the following admission requirements, you can request an application packet.

  • You have a bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution and with a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5.
  • You reside, and will continue to reside throughout the program in the United States or Puerto Rico.
  • You want to teach elementary grades K-6 and you live in either Pasco or Hernando County, Florida. Or, you live close enough to one of those counties that you are willing to conduct your field experience in either Pasco or Hernando County.
    or
    You want to teach a K-12 subject, such as Music, Art, Foreign Language, Exceptional Student Education (ESE) or Physical Education and you live in either Pasco or Hernando County, Florida, or you agree to conduct a 5-week/ 10 hour per week internship with Florida Virtual School.
    or
    You want to teach a secondary subject area, such as grades 5-9 or grades 6-12 and you live in either Pasco or Hernando County, Florida, or you agree to conduct a 5-week/ 10 hour per week internship with Florida Virtual School.
    or
    You are currently teaching in a school, with your own class, on a temporary certificate.
    or
    You are currently teaching in a private school, with your own class. And, you will be able to ask a school administrator (who is a certified teacher) to act as your mentor teacher.

Step 2
While you are waiting for your application packet to arrive, follow the directions on the Statement of Eligibility page and apply for your Statement of Eligibility.

Step 3
Study for and take your General Knowledge Exam and your Subject Area Exam. Start on the Florida Educator Certification Exams page.

Step 4

  1. Complete all of the forms in the application packet; including ordering an official transcript to be sent to the EPI Coordinator (full address and directions are in packet).
  2. Return packet to EPI Coordinator in time for it to arrive prior to the program deadline. See EPI Program Calendar for deadlines.
