PHCC receives Janet G. Thomson scholarship endowment

The Pasco-Hernando Community College Foundation recently received a $10,000 endowment from Janet and Dave Thomson of New Port Richey, Fla. An additional $2,000 gift provides a $1,000 annual scholarship for each of the 2012–2013 and 2013–2014 academic years.

The Janet G. Thomson scholarship was established to assist PHCC students who need financial support to help achieve their dreams of a college education. Dave and Janet, having no formal education of their own, said it’s not as important the recipient makes straight A’s, but that they are trying to better themselves and need the financial support to continue moving forward.

The Thomsons attended the annual 2012 Heart of Gold Donor Appreciation Luncheon where they heard a powerful testimony by scholarship recipient and guest speaker, Bree Richards. Her moving speech inspired Janet and Dave to establish the scholarship to help other PHCC students. “We want to see others achieve what we were not fortunate enough to complete ourselves,” said the Thomsons.

Students interested in being considered for PHCC Foundation scholarships this fall may submit their applications through the college’s online application at http://scholarships.phcc.edu.
