Pasco-Hernando Community College is celebrating 40 years of success July 1, 2012 through June 30, 2013. To mark this milestone a year-long celebration with various events and exhibits is scheduled. Festivities will include alumni gatherings, individually themed campus events, and art exhibits.
In 1972, PHCC opened its doors, designed to serve the college’s sprawling and diverse 1,200 square mile district of Pasco and Hernando Counties.
PHCC will kick-off the 40-year anniversary with a special commemorative edition of the college’s bi-annual magazine, PHCC Perspective, highlighting the incredible and colorful journey of the college. Plus, readers of the magazine will learn about PHCC’s first registered student and current PHCC Associate Professor of Mathematics, Shirley Cherry and her educational journey in the Faculty Profile section of the magazine. The magazine will be available in print and on our publications page.
On October 18, PHCC will hold its annual All College Day, an event that brings together nearly 500 college administrators, faculty, staff, board members and foundation directors for a day of informative learning opportunities, including lectures and workshops. This year, All College Day will begin with “Presidential Reflections,” a moderated panel discussion featuring PHCC’s three strong presidents who have led the college since it was founded.
Each of the four PHCC campuses will host their own themed celebrations to be held this fall and are free and open to the public:
- Oct. 23, 2012, East Campus, Dade City - Past, Present and Future
- Oct. 25, 2012, North Campus, Brooksville - 40 Rocks
- Nov. 8, 2012, West Campus, New Port Richey - Wild West
- Nov. 15, 2012, Spring Hill Campus– Passport to the Future
An art exhibit, Waypoints: A 40-year journey, will display PHCC’s rich and relevant history embodied in photographs, news clippings and artifacts, tracking the College’s strategic march through time. The exhibit will run from November 8 through December 13, 2012 in the PHCC art gallery located in the Alric Pottberg Library on the West Campus in New Port Richey, 10230 Ridge Road. Art gallery hours are 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Friday.
The year-long celebration will culminate with an exclusive PHCC Foundation fundraising event on April 13, 2013 hosted by Mr. and Mrs. Ted Phillips at the 4G Ranch in Land O Lakes. The Musunuru Family is a presenting sponsor. S.K. Rao Musunuru, M.D., is chair of the PHCC District Board of Trustees.
