Pasco-Hernando Community College was presented with three scholarships resulting in more than $24,000 in funds from the Florida College System Foundation. Randall W. Hanna, Chancellor, Division of Florida Colleges with the Florida Department of Education presented the funds to PHCC President Katherine Johnson, Ed.D., and Chair of the PHCC District Board of Trustees S.K. Rao Musunuru, M.D., at the September meeting held at the Spring Hill Campus.
The Bank of America “Dream Makers” scholarship of $3,778.64, established through a $1 million gift from Bank of America provides opportunities for first-generation in-college students. The earnings from the endowment are awarded annually and equally distributed to the Florida College System’s 28 institutions.
The annual Helios Education Foundation First Generation Scholarship of $10,621 will be awarded to first generation in-college students preparing for a career in education with the intent to become a teacher in the state of Florida. Helios is the largest nonprofit serving Arizona and Florida focused solely on education.
Students entering skilled nursing and allied health programs will benefit from the $10,177.35 for the Florida Blue, Nursing and Allied Health Scholarship. The Florida Blue Scholarship, formerly Blue Cross Blue Shield of Florida, Inc. has provided over $1.5 million in scholarships serving over 2,800 students statewide since establishing the award fund.
