The Pasco-Hernando Community College men’s basketball team spent part of Thanksgiving Day preparing holiday dinners for Pasco county residents in need. The team assembled at the PHCC fitness center at 8 a.m.—not for practice, but to meet and travel as a team to join church members and volunteers at Redeemer Community Church in New Port Richey to make Thanksgiving dinners.

“The team met new community members and served alongside newly-elected Superintendent of Pasco County Schools, Kurt Browning and his wife, Kathy,” said Head Coach and Athletic Director, James E. Johnson. In two hours the PHCC men’s basketball team helped serve, assemble, and deliver over 300 carry-out dinners that included all the Thanksgiving fixings—turkey, mashed potatoes, gravy and green beans.

Coach Johnson strives to teach his players to be thankful for their talents to play ball, but also to be humble enough to give rather than receive. “They are really great young men, and very respectful,” said Coach Johnson.
