PHCC's Brandon McWhorter receives FCSAA honorable mention

Brandon McWhorterPasco-Hernando Community College men’s basketball player, 6’0” guard, Brandon McWhorter, was awarded a National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Region 8/Florida College System Activities Association (FCSAA) Men’s Basketball Player of the Week Honorable Mention for the week of January 14. The FCSAA released its Men’s Basketball Coaches’ Polls noting freshman McWhorter’s 21.5 point two-game average during the voting period.

“McWhorter, a late recruit for the team, is a valuable player. He is a quiet leader and has earned respect from his teammates and from opposing teams. He deserves this recognition and he has certainly earned it,” said James E. Johnson, PHCC athletic director and head coach.

McWhorter tallied 18 points in PHCC’s 73-59 victory against Impact Academy on January 14. Four days later, PHCC defeated Trinity College 57-39 and he scored 25 points in that contest.  PHCC is on a four-game winning streak, with McWhorter as the leading scorer. “McWhorter has really surprised us with his sharp shooting scoring ability, and I am glad he is playing for PHCC and not against us on another team,” said Coach Johnson.

McWhorter is a first-year student at PHCC and a graduate of Anclote High School in Holiday, Florida. To learn more about the PHCC men’s basketball team or review the 2012-2013 game schedule visit the PHCC basketball page.
