Pasco-Hernando Community College Foundation recently received an additional $8,000 from Gerrie Bishop, of Brooksville, to fund the Linda Bishop Tew Memorial Scholarship. This scholarship supports law related programs at PHCC.
Bishop has worked for 25 years as Hernando County’s sole general magistrate. Bishop returned to school at the age of 39 earning her Associate in Arts degree from PHCC and eventually a law degree from the University of Florida’s Levin School of Law. During the same time, Bishop’s daughter, Linda, attended Hernando High School and was dually enrolled at PHCC.
Linda had the distinction of being PHCC’s first Hernando County dual enrollment student and went on to a career in law enforcement with Pasco County. When Linda Bishop-Tew passed away unexpectedly, Bishop established a scholarship in her honor at PHCC. “I had always planned a scholarship,” said Bishop.
