The Encore Academy at Pasco-Hernando Community College will offer a variety of enrichment workshops in June on the Spring Hill Campus, 450 Beverly Court. The Encore Academy is a service of PHCC that provides educational opportunities to adults over the age of 50.
This series of workshops for beginners is designed to help students 50 and over to become more at ease and confident with using a computer. Students work on individual computers in the college labs, guided by an instructor, and are among their peers.
These workshops also will prepare students who would like to take the follow-up workshops in July, which will include introductions to Microsoft Office programs.
Introduction to Computers I and II – Monday and Wednesday, 6/3 and 6/5, from 6 to 8 p.m. Students learn effective use of the mouse, keyboard and scroll-bar and learn to navigate programs and the Internet. Computer parts, CD/DVD drives, storage devices and basic computer terminology is discussed. $24
Windows Basics I and II – Monday and Wednesday, 6/10 and 6/12, from 6 to 8 p.m. This hands-on approach to teaching the skills necessary to navigate and use the Windows operating system efficiently and confidently include learning to use menus, icons, commands and dialog boxes. $24
Windows Applications I and II – Monday and Wednesday, 6/17 and 6/19, from 6 to 8 p.m. Windows programs such as WordPad, Calculator and Windows Explorer are presented during the course of this workshop. Creating files will be emphasized during part II. $24
Beginning File Management I and II – Monday and Wednesday, 6/24 and 6/26, from 6 to 8 p.m. Learn how to save and organize files, create folders; and rename, copy and move files. $24
