Pasco-Hernando Community College’s Information Center recently celebrated its 10 year anniversary and servicing its one millionth caller. Originally named the Call Center, the department was renamed the Information Center in 2007 to reflect a wide range of services. Staff members field calls for each of the four campuses and the college’s toll-free phone number, 1-877-TRY-PHCC. Common questions relate to admissions and registration and queries about special events. While responding to a variety of calls each day, the center also distributes countless announcements and news to students through an outbound messaging service.
“Cross-training staff provides consistent and expedient service,” said Melissa Rushton, Information Center Coordinator. “Three full-time representatives, an e-advisor who responds to student inquiries through an online chat and two student workers handle hundreds of requests daily.”
Rushton, a 10-year center veteran, said the college was excited to celebrate the center’s milestone of assisting one million callers in a decade. “With the new Porter Campus at Wiregrass Ranch opening in January 2014, I believe our next milestone will be reached much faster,” said Rushton.
To acquire feedback on the Information Center’s vital role at PHCC, a recent student survey was conducted, with results underscoring satisfaction with the center’s service. Ten prizes, including $50 and $25 gift certificates to the College Store, were awarded to participating students who had been entered into a random drawing.
The PHCC Information Center is open Monday through Thursday, 8 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. The college is closed on Fridays for the summer, through August 9.
