Micheal Jones was recently named head basketball coach at Pasco-Hernando Community College. Jones previously served as assistant coach at PHCC from 2010 to 2012. The basketball program is a member of the Florida College System Activities Association (FCSAA) and the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA).
Jones began his career coaching middle school basketball at Challenger K8 in Spring Hill (2005-07) and at West Hernando Middle School in Brooksville (2010-12). He held the assistant junior varsity high school basketball coach position for Florida State University School in Tallahassee from 2007 to 2009. Jones served as athletic director at Fox Chapel Middle School (2012-13) in Spring Hill.
“My priority is to teach the student athletes how to become successful in all areas of their lives by developing a solid foundation of basketball and sports knowledge that they can carry with them through their life-journey,” said Coach Jones.
Jones has not only coached at PHCC, but also played two seasons at the college and helped lead the Conquistadors to the Suncoast Conference championship in 2000. He appeared twice in the Florida Community College Activities Association (FCCAA) State Tournament and represented PHCC in the 2000 state all-star game.
Jones received his bachelor’s degree from Florida State University and his master’s degree in athletic administration from Nova Southeastern University, Fort Lauderdale. He is currently pursuing a doctorate in sports psychology through the University of the Rockies, Colo.
