Pasco-Hernando Community College women’s volleyball team will host a Dig Pink match against South Florida State College on Tuesday, October 1 at its West Campus in New Port Richey, 10230 Ridge Road in the gymnasium.
Special Dig Pink t-shirts will be sold at the event for $10 each. All proceeds from the t-shirt sales on the event day will go directly to former PHCC volleyball player, Amber Walker, recently diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma and undergoing treatment in Tennessee. “Amber’s illness has hit close to home with us at PHCC and we are truly inspired by Amber’s testimony and optimism during this challenging time,” said Kim Whitney, Assistant Athletic Director and women’s Volleyball Head Coach.
“When I heard about Amber’s diagnosis, I wanted to let her know she is still a part of our PHCC family and that we love and support her. This is a small way we can show Amber and her family that we care,” said Whitney, Walker’s former coach at PHCC. Walker, formerly Davidson, was a libero for two seasons (2005-2007) at PHCC. In her second year with the program, she ranked third in the National Junior College Athletic Association with 6.86 digs per game, helping lead PHCC to the Suncoast Conference championship.
PHCC’s volleyball team members will continue to sell Dig Pink t-shirts through the month of October. All proceeds will be donated to support breast cancer awareness and breast cancer research at the Side-Out Foundation, excluding October 1 t-shirt proceeds earmarked for the Walker family.
