One-Woman Performance "Rosa Parks: Such a Time" Scheduled for PHCC's MLK Event

Pasco-Hernando Community College’s 29th annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Commemorative Lecture Series will feature a historical performance by award and Emmy winner Gwendolyn Briley-Strand.

Briley-Strand will present her one-woman monologue, “Rosa Parks: Such a Time” at PHCC campuses. The powerful one-woman performance will revisit the historical event when Rosa Parks risked her own freedom to stand up for equality.

Four presentations are scheduled over a two-day period:

Wednesday, January 15

  • 10 a.m. – Room E-130, East Campus, Dade City, 36727 Blanton Road
  • 6:30 p.m. – Room B-104, North Campus, Brooksville, 11415 Ponce de Leon Blvd.

Thursday, January 16

  • 9:45 a.m. – Performing Arts Center, West Campus, New Port Richey, 10230 Ridge Road
  • 7 p.m. – Room B-105, Spring Hill Campus, 450 Beverly Court

These presentations are offered at no charge and the public is invited to attend.

Briley-Strand has been delighting audiences on stage, radio, television and in movie theaters for more than 30 years. She is the founder and CEO of See The Fruits, Inc.—a company that uses the Arts to teach American history. Briley-Strand has performed her one-woman shows on historical figures, Rosa Parks and Harriet Tubman, for hundreds of schools and organizations nationally and internationally, such as the J.F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts and The Smithsonian National Museum of American History in Washington, DC.

“Commemorating Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s legacy, the PHCC’s MLK Lecture Series provides a forum for faculty, students and the community to engage in relevant social justice discussions,” said Imani Asukile, PHCC’s director of multicultural student affairs and equity services.
