Pasco-Hernando Community College recently was recognized at the Association of Florida Colleges (AFC) 64th Annual Convention in Orlando, Fla. PHCC received an Exemplary Practice Award, a Best Practice Award, six Awards of Excellence and a Best in Show Award.
PHCC’s Julie S. Monsegur, Health Laboratory Assistant, and David L. Sullivan, Ph.D., Professor, Paramedics/EMS, won the AFC’s Health Care Education Exemplary Practice Award for their health programs’ collaborative simulation project. Monsegur and Sullivan presented the collaborative project titled “Low Cost, High Impact in Simulation” at the AFC annual meeting in Orlando.
The AFC Communications and Marketing Commission presented PHCC’s Marketing and Communications department five first place Award of Excellence certificates for categories: Annual Report – Foundation, a collaborative project between the Marketing and Communications department and the PHCC Foundation; Advertising – Radio; Newsletter – Electronic; Student Handbook/Orientation Guide; and Brochure. Also, PHCC was awarded the Best in Show Award prize of $250 for its 2013/2014 Student Handbook/Orientation Guide publication developed by the Student Activities office.
PHCC was one of four schools recognized by the Florida College System Chancellor Randy Hanna for innovation and excellence. PHCC received the Chancellor’s Best Practice Award for its Student Assistance Program—a partnership with BayCare Behavioral Health. PHCC is the first Florida college to form a public-private joint initiative for student counseling services. The success of the program has been evident by an increase in student persistence, graduation rates and the feelings of safety and security among students, staff and faculty as indicated by monthly and annual assessments.
The Chancellor’s Best Practice Awards give recognition to outstanding programs and provides an avenue to share proven strategies and best practices for the entire college system.
