The Encore Academy at Pasco-Hernando State College will offer Back to School Boot Camp and Technology Workshops for plus 50 students on the West Campus, 10230 Ridge Road, New Port Richey. The Encore Academy is a service of PHSC that provides educational opportunities to adults over the age of 50.
Back to School Boot Camp seven-week series:
This intensive program addresses the major obstacles facing plus 50 individuals who want to return to the classroom. Students may enroll for the seven-week series or select individual workshops of interest.
Week 1: Intro to Computers – Monday, 6/23 from 6 to 8 p.m.
This workshop prepares students to operate the mouse, keyboard and scroll-bar and provides instruction on navigating commonly used programs and the Internet. Computer elements, including CD/DVD drives, storage devices, and fundamental computer terminology will be discussed.
Week 2: Computer Maintenance – Monday, 6/30 from 6 to 8 p.m.
Participants will learn simple maintenance techniques to help keep computers operating efficiently.

iPad Tips and Tricks – Tuesday, 6/10 from 10 a.m. to noon
An introduction to amazing iPad functions, including syncing tablets to other devices and exploring the App Store, iCloud and iBooks.
iPhone Tips and Tricks – Tuesday, 6/10 from 1 to 3 p.m.
Discover the iPhone’s wonderful functions and how to synch your phone to other devices. Explore the App Store, iCloud, iBooks, email, wi-fi and security settings.
Intro to Windows 8 – Monday, 6/16 from 6 to 8 p.m.
Learn how to navigate Windows 8 and 8.1. Topics will include tiles, installing and uninstalling apps, accessing charms, personalization and how to sync settings.
All workshops are open to the community. Adults of all ages are welcome to register. Registration deadline is three days prior to workshop start date. Each two-hour workshop fee is $12.
