Pasco-Hernando State College recently added FOCUS 2, an online, interactive career advising system to improve the career development process for students. The free self-paced career guidance tool combines self-assessment, career and major exploration, decision making and action planning in one comprehensive program. Designed to help students explore their values, interests, personality and skills, the assessment tool meets new state legislative requirements for major/meta-major selection.
“FOCUS 2 facilitates goal setting, academic decision making and course selection to increase student commitment, motivation and the probability of retention,” said Jackie Eden, Assistant Director of Career and Testing Services. “Many freshmen are unsure of how to combine their interests and skills into selecting a major or determining a career path. FOCUS 2 can move students forward in planning suitable careers and provide results-oriented goals.”
FOCUS 2 is accessible to all students and alumni and available anytime online for most devices. As interests and skills expand, career assessment results may change so students are encouraged to reassess periodically. Individual FOCUS 2 results are saved in a digital career portfolio for future reference.
FOCUS 2 is ACSCI (Association for Computer-Based Systems for Career Information) certified and meets the standards and criteria established by the National Career Development Association and the U. S. Department of Labor.
