PHSC Trustees Elect New Leadership

The Pasco-Hernando State College District Board of Trustees (DBOT) elected a new chair and vice chair for the 2014-2015 academic year at its July board meeting.

Trustee Leonard H. Johnson was elected to serve as chair and Trustee Morris R. Porton was elected as vice chair.

Leonard JohnsonJohnson, a Dade City attorney, is a shareholder at Johnson, Auvil, Pratico & Chane, P.A., where he practices real estate law, business and banking law, construction law and estate planning. Johnson, born in Thomasville, Georgia, received his bachelor’s degree from the University of Florida, and his law degree from the University of Florida College of Law. He has practiced law in Pasco County and the surrounding areas since 1981. An avid fan of Gator Nation, he also sits on the Board of Directors of Gator Boosters, Inc. Johnson has served on the College’s board since November 2011.

Morris PortonPorton, Spring Hill, is a retired Florida Traditions Bank senior vice president who served on the College’s Foundation Board of Directors from 2009 until his appointment to the DBOT in November 2011. Active in community service projects, he has served as a Greater Hernando County Chamber of Commerce board member since 1995. He is the owner of Lift More Fitness, slated to open in September in Spring Hill. Porton earned his bachelor’s degree from the University of South Florida and a banking degree from the Graduate School of Banking at Louisiana State University. He also is a Hernando County Sheriff’s Office reserve lieutenant and served in the United States Navy Reserve from 1965 to 1966.

At the July meeting each year the board elects leaders and reviews meeting and event dates for the upcoming academic year.
