Anthony Mitchell, M.D.

Air Force Surgeon General’s Aerospace Medicine, Consultant

Colonel (Dr.) Anthony ‘MAGIC’ Mitchell is the Air Force Surgeon General’s Aerospace Medicine Consultant. In this role he provides oversight of the Aerospace and Operational Medicine Enterprise as Chair of the Flight Medicine Corporate Board and ensures execution of Flight and Operational Medicine programs in support of MAJCOMs and MTFs.  Serves as Flight Medicine Career Field Manager and assists the Medical Corps Chief in 48X utilization, manages physician assignments and deployments and is the approval authority for fully qualified AD physician (recruiting) accessions.

Colonel Mitchell is from Decatur, GA. He entered the Air Force in 1994 as a Graduate with Military Distinction of the United States Air Force Academy. His background includes expertise in emergency medicine, tactical critical care medicine, readiness training and health-care capacity building. He has applied this expertise as an instructor with the Defense Institute of Medical Operations working with foreign governments and militaries providing instruction in trauma care, mass casualty care/ readiness and CBRNE disaster preparedness.  .

Colonel Mitchell has substantial deployment experience in support of Operations IRAQI and ENDURING FREEDOM.  He also served as an instructor of Emergency Medicine and Critical Care Medicine at the U.S Air Force Center for Sustainment and Trauma Readiness (C-STARS) – Baltimore and assistant professor in Military & Emergency Medicine at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences. Just prior to starting as Aerospace Medicine Consultant, Colonel Mitchell was the Commander, 8th Medical Group, Kunsan Air Base, Republic of Korea.
