How do I apply to the practical nursing program?
  1. Submit a completed PHSC application with application fee
  2. Take the Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS)
  3. Submit a completed practical nursing certificate program application with limited access application fee
How will students be selected?
All students who apply for a given class will be ranked according to their TEAS scores. In addition, Pasco and Hernando county residents will be given preference.
When is the deadline for me to apply to the PN program?
For August admission: You must apply between April 1 and May 30. The application must arrive at the Admissions and Student Records office by 4 p.m. on May 30. If May 30 falls on a weekend, the application deadline will fall on the next business day.
For January admission: You must apply between July 15 and September 15. The application must arrive at the Admissions and Student Records office by 4 p.m. on September 15. If September 15 falls on a weekend, the application deadline will fall on the next business day.
Can I apply if I do not live in Pasco or Hernando counties?
Yes, you can apply, but preference for admission will be given to residents of Pasco and Hernando Counties.
When will I find out if I have been selected for the next Practical Nursing class?
For the August class, the selection committee will meet in mid June and letters should be sent out by the end of June. For the January class, the selection committee will meet in mid October, and letters should be sent out by the end of October.
I am very anxious to find out about my application. Can I call the nursing program or my advisor to find out if I have been accepted? Can they email me?
No. This information will be sent by postal mail. It will not be released by phone or email.
If I am not selected this year, can I reapply in subsequent years?
Yes, you may reapply each year.
I was picked as an alternate for the last class, but was not selected. Does this mean that I will automatically be selected the following year?
No, anyone not selected for admission, as an alternate or otherwise, must reapply for subsequent years.
I dropped out of the PN program and want to reenter. Do I have to meet the new criteria?
If you dropped the PN program in your first semester without successfully completing a single PN course, you must reapply using the new criteria. If you completed one or more PN courses successfully, you should contact the Associate Dean of Nursing for instructions regarding reentry.
I took the Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS) last year. Can I retake the TEAS to try to get a higher score?
The TEAS may be taken three times per calendar year (Jan‐Dec) with at least 30 days between testing.
