The Pasco-Hernando Community College women’s cross country team will travel to Iowa Central Community College in Ft. Dodge, Iowa, to compete in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) 5K National Championship on Saturday, November 9. The team hopes to improve from their 13th place finish last year. Consistently ranked among the top 25 in the 2013 season, PHCC Head Coach Jacki Wachtel said, “I am confident this team can break into the top 10; each runner needs to have their best race.”
The following weekend, PHCC will head to Dallas, Ga. for the NJCAA Half Marathon National Championships, hosted by Chattahoochee Technical College. On Saturday, November 16, six PHCC runners will cover the 13.1 mile course along a stretch of the Silver Comet Trail located between Atlanta and the Alabama state line on the abandoned Seaboard Coastline Railroad. The team hopes to place in the top five. “Last year, Samantha Greenlee earned All-American in the event with a seventh place finish. She looks to improve upon that in this year’s meet,” said Wachtel.
