The Encore Academy at Pasco-Hernando State College will offer a series of seminars with a Personal View of Military Topics at the West Campus in New Port Richey, 10230 Ridge Road, beginning in March. Jack Plant, Assistant Professor of Drafting and Design Technology at the College and a member of the Army’s Special Forces for 38 years, will share his military experience and passionate views through three riveting presentations.
Unrest in the '60s – Tuesday, 3/4 from 5 to 7 p.m. In the early 1960s, Plant led a group of people on a tour of scenic southern cities, Selma and Montgomery, Ala. This seminar promises participants will experience a slice of American history from a tumultuous and society-changing era, as told by one of its participants. $12
The Cuban Missile Crisis – Tuesday, 3/18 from 5 to 7 p.m. The Cuban Missile Crisis arguably posed the greatest single threat at any time in the history of the United States. Locked and loaded with the American invasion force that was poised to invade Cuba and perhaps Eastern Europe, this presentation shows the view from the bottom up rather than from the top down view, typical of the general media. $12
Special Forces: What it Means to be a Green Beret – Tuesday, 4/1 from 5 to 7 p.m. Army Special Forces member Jack Plant enlisted as a junior in high school and served for eight years as a soldier in the ranks and came of age as a “Buck Sergeant.” He received his commission through ROTC, rose through the Company Officer and Field Grade ranks, and retired after 38 years of commissioned service as a full colonel. Join Plant as he reminisces on his years of service where he suffered pain and privation, saw the great cities and jungles of the world, and dined with scoundrels and kings. $12
