Correctional Officer Crossover Training to Florida CMS Law Enforcement Basic Recruit Training Program―Technical Certificate

Correctional officers may desire to transition into a career in law enforcement or earn dual certifications. Law enforcement officers uphold the laws of their country and those of the jurisdiction in which they work. Officers may work for a local police department, a county sheriff’s office or at federal organizations. Patrol officers have a very hands-on position and interact regularly with the public. They respond to crime and incident calls, patrol traffic, investigate and maintain order. These officers are also most likely to write citations and apprehend criminals.

Law enforcement officers must be able to communicate clearly, calm a distraught victim, adapt to unexpected situations and maintain a level head at all times. They will have integrity and be honest, ethical and compassionate.

Purpose

The purpose of this program is to train students who want a dual certification in law enforcement and corrections. To take the program courses, students must provide evidence they have completed a correctional officer basic recruit training program and passed the State Officer Certification examination. Upon satisfactory completion of the courses listed, students will be eligible to take the State Officer Certification exam for Law Enforcement Officers. Successful scores on both state exams enable the student to receive dual certification as a correctional officer and as a law enforcement officer. This course is the Criminal Justice Standards & Training Commission approved Correctional Officer Crossover Training to Florida CMS Law Enforcement Basic Recruit Training Program.

Certification

Upon successful completion of the program, the cadet will be eligible to take the Florida State Officer Certification examination in order to become a certified law enforcement officer.
