Pharmacy Technician―Technical Certificate
Pharmacy technicians assist licensed pharmacists with filling prescriptions and providing customer service. Specific duties generally include measuring or counting medications, generating prescription labels, verifying health insurance coverage, filing insurance claims and maintaining electronic records.
Pharmacy technicians enjoy working with the public and are effective communicators. Attention to detail, accuracy, confidentiality and patience are key attributes needed for the technician to realize professional fulfillment and success in the field.
The purpose of this program is to prepare students to work as pharmacy technicians in retail and hospital settings, under the direct supervision of a licensed pharmacist. Students successfully completing this program are eligible to sit for the national pharmacy technician certification examination administered by the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board.
This program can be completed in approximately one year if students attend classes on a full-time basis.
This program is offered during the day in the fall and spring semester at the Porter Campus at Wiregrass Ranch. Students will attend classes Monday–Thursday.
Courses and clinical components are part of the curriculum.
