Pasco-Hernando State College (PHSC) men’s baseball player, Trey Pearce, was named two-time National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) DII Baseball Defensive Player of the Year in NJCAA Region 8 Men’s Baseball by the Florida College System Activities Association (FCSAA). The sophomore first baseman and left-hand pitcher from North Florida Christian, Tallahassee, Fla., fielded .989 with 5 errors in 446 total chances.

PHSC placed four position players on the NJCAA DII Region 8 All-Region Team: sophomore outfielders Ryan Russell (.384) and Caleb Walls (.385); and sophomore third basemen Zack Ghelfi (.263) and Brad Hession (.347).

PHSC sophomore pitchers, Tyler Buchanan (7-2, 2.67) and Sam Prince (10-1, 4.08), with freshman Dan Nicholls (8-3, 4.63), also were named to the NJCAA DII Region 8 All-Region Team.

PHSC was eliminated from the NJCAA DII Southeast District Tournament in Burlington, N.C. in May. The team went 1-2 in the tournament. The baseball team finished 36-18 on the season and it was the 11th consecutive winning season for the program.

“I was really proud of our ball club this season,” said Steve Winterling, men’s baseball head coach and athletic director. “I couldn't ask anymore of the effort they gave on the baseball field. We had a unique chemistry that put together a great season."
