Kevin O’Farrell, Ph.D., Pasco-Hernando State College (PHSC) Porter Campus at Wiregrass Ranch provost, was named 2018 Business Leader of the Year by the North Tampa Bay Chamber of Commerce. The announcement came at the Chamber’s annual 2018 Celebrating Excellence in Business Awards Banquet at the new Hyatt Place Hotel in Wesley Chapel.

“I have the honor of serving our students, their families and our community. My students inspire me. I could not effectively lead the Porter Campus without the support and encouragement from the outstanding leaders I am privileged to work alongside at the college and the campus. Their dedication to service is exceptional,” said O’Farrell, who was in the running amongst his own father, Mark O’Farrell, D.D., president of Trinity College, Trinity, Fla., and other local leaders.

PHSC’s O’Farrell, who began his role as provost at the college’s Porter Campus in 2016, also received the 2018 Chairman's Award, recognizing his leadership, dedication and contributions to the North Tampa Bay Chamber of Commerce. He joined PHSC in February 2014 as the assistant dean of instructional services, then held various roles at the college until he took on the role as provost. Prior to PHSC, O’Farrell worked at Trinity College of Florida, in various positions (2007-2014)—his last post as assistant vice president for communications and marketing. He was also an adjunct instructor of political science at PHSC and Trinity College.

O'Farrell holds a Ph.D. in curriculum and instruction from the University of South Florida, a Master of Arts in political science and a Master of Public Administration from the University of Central Florida, and a Bachelor of Science in interpersonal and organizational communication from Toccoa Falls College, Ga.
