Job Outlook

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics of the U.S. Department of Labor, employment of correctional officers is expected to grow gradually by 5 percent between 2017 and 2025. Increasing demand for correctional officers will stem from population growth and rising rates of incarceration.

Job Potential Earnings

According to the Florida Department of Economic Opportunity, Labor Market Statistics, correctional officers start at almost $15 per hour and increase to $21 per hour with experience.

Special Notice

Candidates may be sponsored by a local law enforcement agency.
Upon completion of this program, the cadet will be eligible to take the Florida State Officer Certification Examination to receive provisional certification as a correctional officer.

Prospective students should attend a mandatory orientation at least six months prior to the start of the Academy class they wish to attend. Orientation sessions are held on the third Thursday of the following months:

  • January
  • March
  • May
  • July
  • September
  • November

All sessions will be begin at 2 p.m. and will be held in the Public Service Technology Building at the East Campus in Dade City located at 36727 Blanton Road.
