Press Release

Pasco-Hernando State College (PHSC) hosted its bi-annual Celebration of Poetry on April 20, at the North Campus in Brooksville, naming Yvonne Bondurant, of Brooksville, and Delenn Descz, of Spring Hill, Best Readers.

Professor Emeritus Richard Downing, Ph.D., and Professor of Language Arts Kay McKamy, Ph.D., have coordinated the event since 2000. The event is held each spring in April to coincide with National Poetry Month and Shakespeare’s birthday. Due to its success and popularity, in 2006, the college added a poetry celebration in December as well.

PHSC’s North Campus Student Government Association provided refreshments and door prizes for the Celebration of Poetry event, which hosted nearly 100 faculty, staff, students and community members. Past winner of the Best Reader award and Development Education/ Teaching Assistant, Matt Voscinar, and English Instructor Lisa Jones also assisted in coordinating the Celebration of Poetry event. For more information on upcoming poetry events, call Sandre Lyons, PHSC student activities coordinator at 352-797-5014.
