About

Learn More about Social Justice

Attend the #ItTakesUs Social Justice webinar sessions to gain insight into how events happening throughout the country impact us here at PHSC. All sessions include a way we can each personally take action to make our community, state, country, and world a better place for everyone.

Social Justice Series

Winner of the Excellence in Inclusivity Award by the North Tampa Chamber of Commerce, the #ItTakesUs Social Justice Webinar Series is supported by PHSC Student Life and Leadership, and the PHSC Equity, Diversity, Inclusion and Multicultural Student Affairs department.

PHSC's Student Life and Leadership supports events and programs directly related to multicultural awareness among PHSC students and the community. Diversity and inclusion are promoted through activities, guest speakers, events and experiential learning opportunities that foster meaningful connections with others. Students will experience outside their native culture and comfort zone to prepare them for global citizenship and challenge their current thinking patterns.

  • How to Be a Good Ally, by Ebone Bell (This presentation was a special PHSC Peace Week presentation.)

    • We get it. You have Black and Brown friends and colleagues you adore. You exclaim, “Black Lives Matter!” For your LGBTQ friends, you believe “Love is Love”, and you post supportive images on your social media…but is that enough?

This program dives deeper into ways you can show up as an ally, not only during social justice movements but also in everyday life.

  • Say My Lines, by Tatanka Means (This presentation celebrated Native American History Month.)

These biases create barriers to developing true connection with others. In this session, Dr. Leslie will have an honest but candid discussion around the unconscious biases and prejudices we hold against others and that the solution lies in boldly owning our stories and moving closer to the things (and people) that scare us. This keynote is great for addressing diversity and inclusion and social justice issues on campus, as well as peer relationships within campus organizations. This talk can also be adapted into a workshop format.
