Explore Pathways to Health Care!
Middle and high school students are invited to explore careers in health care at our free Health Care Discovery Summer Camp! Hosted by The Institute for Nursing and Allied Health Advancement and Workforce at PHSC, students can explore real-world applications in nursing, medicine, surgical technology and other health care professions through a fun, hands-on learning environment.
Key Features:
- Hands-on learning with PHSC health care faculty and simulation equipment.
- CPR certification through the American Heart Association Heart Saver course.
- Group activities designed to encourage teamwork, leadership and communication.
- A certificate of participation for all campers.
Schedule
Day One: Life-Saving Skills (Three Hours)
- CPR Heart Saver Certification
- Learn the fundamentals of emergency response from certified instructors.
Day Two: Behind the Scenes in Health Care
- Surgical technology (three hours)
- Glove up for mock surgical prep
Day Three: Nursing and Medicine in Action (Three Hours)
- Engage in basic clinical assessments, use of simulation mannequins and explore health care diagnostics.
Day Four: Emergency Response Simulation (Three Hours)
- Disaster day!
- Students will put their new skills to the test in a high-energy disaster response simulation scenario alongside nurses, medics and faculty mentors.
Instructors:
- PHSC Nursing, Surgical Technology and Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Program Faculty
- Guest speakers from local partner hospitals
Camp Fee
The camp fee is waived for all campers.
Grade Requirement
Students entering grades 6 through 12.
