Q&A with Genevieve Levrie

After years of military service, relocating to Florida, and balancing work, family and education, Genevieve Levrie embraced a new chapter filled with opportunity and self-discovery. Inspired by her husband's return to college, she enrolled at PHSC to continue her own educational journey and explore new career possibilities. Whether participating in campus events, connecting with fellow students or exploring future career paths, she approaches each experience with curiosity, determination, and a desire to help others.

Q: Why did you decide to enroll at PHSC?

Levrie: I enrolled at PHSC after convincing my husband to enroll in the 2024 academic year. After his first semester and seeing how excited he was to be back in school, I also wanted to continue my education.

Q: How has being a Veteran shaped your journey?

Levrie: Being a veteran has shaped my journey in many different ways; I have had some amazing opportunities. The skills, experience and networking have provided me opportunities to connect with other veterans, be more involved at PHSC and find new potential interests. The structure I learned in the military has helped me keep my schedule as a full-time student, helped keep my work more organized, be less shy to talk to peers and participate in class more often.

Q: What made you interested in Nursing?

Levrie: Originally, I was pursuing my Public Health degree while I was stationed in Maryland. After moving to Florida a few years ago, and seeing my husband go back to school, I decided I wanted to pursue nursing. I have always enjoyed and wanted to help others, and nursing is one of those careers that provides that, while also being a rewarding career.

I recently found out that I am only 30 credits shy of my bachelor’s in public health management, so I have also started working at PHSC in the West Campus Testing Center.

Q: What has been your favorite experience so far at PHSC?

Levrie: My favorite experience so far has been meeting all the different people on each campus. Getting to meet the staff from different departments and fellow students has been super interesting. Everyone has different backgrounds and you would be surprised how interesting and amazing some personal journeys are.

Q: How has this program contributed to your educational growth?

Levrie: It has opened Pandora's box. There are so many possibilities out there, and it has really made me reflect on where I want to be 5 years from now.

Q: Are there any clubs or events here that you enjoy attending?

Levrie: Yes, the paranormal club is awesome! We were lucky enough to join them for a paranormal event in Dade City during the Spring 2026 semester. Some of my favorite events here at PHSC are the Taco Tuesdays, campus scavenger hunts and Veterans Cup. Free food, PHSC gear and getting to know the campus and staff during the scavenger hunts and events is fun.

Q: Are there any instructors or staff that you'd like to recognize?

Levrie: Absolutely, I want to give a huge shoutout to the ASC at Spring Hill; Samantha, James, and Ms. Holly have all been wonderful not only to my husband and myself, but to everyone who walks in their center. They are a huge reason I looked into working for PHSC.

I would also like to give another shout-out to the Testing Center at West Campus; Mr. Casey, Ms. Jenette, Ms. Belinda. Ms. Vanessa and all other staff have been wonderful in teaching me about the Testing Center and all the things that go into testing that do not often cross your mind as a student.

For Veteran Services, Ms. Shelly and Zachary have been absolutely amazing when it comes to the process of being veterans and transitioning to PHSC as a student. They are truly remarkable at what they do. As a veteran, making the decision to come back to school came with a lot of anxiety, stress and fear, but they have made it such a smooth transition that I am very thankful I made the decision to come back to school.

Some professors I would like to recognize are Ms. Chandelle Reese, Ms. Tammy Manners, Ms. Maryam Harkas and Mr. Scott Prescott. They all have an absolute true passion for teaching and you can see they truly want their students to learn and they love teaching. I truly appreciate each of them, because I have had professors previously who were not passionate and did not care if their students learned or not.

Q: What are your plans after graduating?

Levrie: Right now, I am taking my time with my classes and seeing where my path leads me. After graduation, whenever that may be, I want to find a place somewhere I am happy and helping others.

Q: What advice would you give a student thinking of enrolling?

Levrie: Don't think, just do it. It's okay to not be sure what you want to do or to change your career path. Sometimes people don't always go into the career they plan to, and that is okay. Give yourself grace, love and most of all be patient with yourself. It's okay to make mistakes. That is what allows you to grow and gives you experience. And if you have questions, ask. Communication is key to everything.

While Genevieve Levrie’s future path is still unfolding, she is embracing every opportunity that comes her way with an open mind and a positive attitude. From serving her country to returning to the classroom and joining the PHSC team, her journey reflects PHSC’s core values of success and excellence.
