Note: Individuals who need their reading endorsement should start in the summer term in order to finish within 1 year.
The Educator Preparation Institute (EPI) program admits students twice a year for the summer and fall terms. Those that are seeking teacher certification and need the reading endorsement should apply to start in the summer term. All program admission requirements must be submitted in order to be considered for enrollment.
Job Outlook
The Bureau of Labor Statistics of the U.S. Department of Labor projects employment in education is projected to grow 7% from 2021 to 2031.
The Florida Department of Education released a report for the 2024-2025 school year that identified the following certification areas that represent the greatest need among teachers statewide:
- English
- English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL)
- Exceptional Student Education (ESE)
- Math
- Science-Earth & Space
- Science-General
- Science-Physical
Job Potential Earnings
According to the Florida Department of Economic Opportunity, Labor Market Statistics, the entry salary for a teacher ranges from $33,247 – $48,560 and the median salary for a teacher ranges from $58,000– $64,000. These salaries vary depending on subject area certification.
