According to Labor Market Statistics by the Florida Department of Economic Opportunity, Labor Market Statistics, starting annual salaries for a police officer and sheriff's deputy begin at about $41,000. Typical salaries for officers are about $58,000 per year. Correctional officers may start at $30,000. Typical salaries for correctional officers in the state are about $43,000 a year.
In addition to applying to the College, application must be made for admission to the law enforcement program. All candidates must meet entry requirements, which include physical fitness and psychological testing. Additional entry requirements and application packets are provided at orientation.
Prospective students should attend a mandatory orientation at least six months prior to the start of the Academy class they wish to attend. Orientation sessions are held on the third Thursday of the following months:
