Pasco-Hernando State College (PHSC) signed a new Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Florida Gulf Coast University (FGCU) today, creating a comprehensive framework for the development of future academic agreements, designed to enhance student opportunity and success in Pasco and Hernando counties.
Approved by the respective Boards of Trustees for both institutions, the MOU establishes general frameworks to support the creation of articulation and transfer agreements, as well as other future collaborative academic initiatives. Each future agreement developed under this framework will align with the shared standards and expectations outlined in the MOU.
“This agreement represents more than a pathway. This is a shared vision for what higher education can achieve when institutions work together with purpose,” said Eric Hall, Ed.D., PHSC president. “By partnering with Florida Gulf Coast University, we are creating a stronger, more connected academic experience that supports students from their first class through the completion of their educational goals. This collaboration allows us to remove barriers, align opportunities and build a foundation where students can thrive, explore and succeed at every stage of their journey.”
The agreement outlines a range of potential collaborative activities, including program articulation, coordinated recruitment efforts, enhanced support for prospective and transfer students and expanded opportunities for data sharing and academic planning. Additional areas of focus may include specialized admissions processes, transfer credit alignment, instructional space opportunities, joint marketing initiatives and the development of scholarships and other financial support.
The MOU also provides a foundation for faculty collaboration, including the potential development of joint research projects and the review and expansion of existing academic partnerships.
The five-year agreement may be renewed upon mutual consent and reflects both institutions’ commitment to maintaining compliance with state and federal regulations, including public records laws and student privacy protections under the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).
The ceremonial signing marks the beginning of a strategic partnership intended to benefit students, communities, and employers throughout the region through innovative and collaborative educational opportunities.
