Application Cycles
The program application is available on this web page only during the application window. Incomplete applications and applications received after the deadline or outside of the application window(s) will not be considered. Any changes to application dates are published on this page.
January 2025 Admission
Applications for Spring 2025 will be accepted from July 8, 2024 until 4 p.m. on September 9, 2024.
Note: The application fee, online application, and all supporting documents must be submitted to complete the Radiography Application Admission Process. All items can be found in the Application Checklist below.
Application Checklist
Each item in the checklist must be completed to be considered as a Radiography program applicant. Incomplete or partial applications are not considered for admission.
- Apply to the Associate in Science in Radiography program at PHSC via the Bobcat Application Portal during the published application window. Pay the $25 non-refundable general admission fee for new students.
- Complete residency requirements (as needed) for new or returning students for general admission and submit any other documents required to complete your general application.
- Pay the $25 non-refundable limited access Radiography application fee once assessed in the Bobcat Application Portal.
Upload into the Application Portal
- Clear, enlarged copy of current driver’s license indicating a physical mailing address (PO Box addresses will not be used for residency preference in the selection process). If a driver’s license, or equivalent, does not prove Pasco or Hernando County residency, it will be processed as a non-resident (out-of-county) application.
Order your official transcripts to be sent to PHSC
- Official high school transcript with graduation date indicating receipt of a standard high school diploma or an official transcript of GED scores indicating receipt of a high school equivalency diploma, if not already submitted.
- Official transcripts from each U.S. college and university attended other than PHSC.
- Official test score reports from external agencies, if applicable, for prerequisite courses (i.e. AP, CLEP, IB, etc.).
Please note: Transcripts are due at the time of application for this program.
Additional Requirements
- Confirm that any needed course substitutions or credit shortages have been approved by the application deadline date.
- Transfer credits: If the course prefix and number of an evaluated transfer course is not equivalent to PHSC's course prefix and number (for example, transfer course does not indicate BSC 1085), then you will have to meet with an advisor to complete a course substitution.
- A cumulative grade point average of 2.0 or higher.
Successful completion of all of the following prerequisite courses with a combined GPA of 2.5 or higher; and with at least a grade of "C" or higher in each course:
- BSC 1085, Human Anatomy & Physiology I (3 credits)
- BSC 1085L, Human Anatomy & Physiology I Lab (1 credit)
- BSC 1086, Human Anatomy & Physiology II (3 credits)
- BSC 1086L, Human Anatomy & Physiology II Lab (1 credit)
Successful completion of one of the following math courses (3 or more credits) with a grade of "C" or higher:
- MAC 1105, College Algebra
- MAC 1147, Precalculus Algebra and Trigonometry
- MAC 2233, Applied Calculus
- MAC 2311, Calculus and Analytical Geometry 1
- MAC 2312, Calculus and Analytical Geometry 2
- MAC 2313, Calculus and Analytical Geometry 3
- MAP 2302, Differential Equations
The grade you earn in your math course is calculated as part of your pre-requisite GPA mentioned above.
Selection Statistics
Term | Prerequisite GPA | Cumulative GPA |
---|---|---|
Spring 2023 | 3.45 | 3.40 |
Spring 2022 | 3.39 | 3.34 |
Spring 2021 | 3.83 | 3.79 |
The GPAs listed above are averages for those students selected in the initial selection of Radiography candidates. All qualified applicants are ranked via a 100 point ranking system based on their prerequisite GPA (80%), their overall cumulative GPA (15%) and their county residency (5%). Residency is determined based on the mailing address listed on the driver’s license submitted with the application only. Students not selected maintain their score and ranking. If a seat becomes available, applicants are contacted in the order that they are ranked. The GPAs listed are averages and are not associated with an individual applicant. Some applicants selected may have GPAs above or below the average in one or both categories listed.
Job Outlook
The Bureau of Labor Statistics is projecting a 6-7% increase in employment from 2022-2032. The field of radiologic technology is expected to grow faster than average. There is an immediate and sustainable demand for educated radiologic technologists in clinics, physicians’ offices, and hospitals.
Job seekers can stand out in this growing field of qualified professionals by getting hands on experience before entering the field by earning a two year A.S degree in Radiography. Those with knowledge of more than one diagnostic imaging procedure—such as CT, MRI and mammography—will have the best employment opportunities.
Job Potential Earnings
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics the median annual wage for a Radiology Technologist in May 2023 was $65,640.
Special Notice
- A physical examination certifying satisfactory health is required
- Clinical agencies require the student to submit a negative criminal background check and drug screening
- Twenty students are admitted annually into this limited access program
- Students attend clinic rotations on days assigned each academic term. Clinic shift times vary, and students can be assigned up to a twelve-hour shift.
- An example schedule including class, lab, and clinic requirements can be obtained by contacting the radiography program.
- Upon successful completion of this program, the graduate receives an Associate in Science in Radiography degree and is eligible to apply for a State General Radiographer’s License and sit for the American Registry of Radiologic Technologist (ARRT) National Credentialing examination. The cost of the American Registry of Radiologic Technologist (ARRT) National Credentialing examination is $200. The graduate will also be eligible to apply for a state license issued by the Department of Health, Bureau of Radiation Control. The cost is $50 payable to the Florida Department of Health, Bureau of Radiation Control.
State Licensure Information
To determine the state(s) in which the program meets or does not meet the requirements, or if PHSC was unable to determine if the program meets the licensing requirements, see below.
- Meets: Florida
In some states, you must obtain a state license before you can work as a radiologic technologist there. That differs from ARRT certification and registration.
About State Licensing Laws: More than 75% of states have licensing laws covering the practice of radiologic technology. In those states, you must obtain a state license before you can work as a radiologic technologist. In addition, many states use ARRT exam scores and/or credentials when making licensing decisions. In other words, some—but not all—states require you to be certified and registered through ARRT before you can obtain a state license.
Keep in mind that earning an ARRT credential doesn’t necessarily mean you’re eligible to work in a particular state. You’ll need to meet that state’s requirements.
