Pasco-Hernando State College (PHSC) is proud to celebrate the continued success of its growing Apprenticeship Programs with programs such as the construction technician workers (CTW) and apartment maintenance technician (AMT) programs. Since their launch in 2022, both programs have made a meaningful impact on students, employers and the local workforce.

As of fall 2025, PHSC has enrolled 64 apprentices in total, with 21 graduates having completed both the Related Technical Instruction (RTI) and On-the-Job Training (OJT) components of their programs. An additional 20 apprentices are currently active, working with local partners and gaining hands-on experience in their respective fields.

“We’re hoping to expand both of the programs as we enter the 2026 spring term,” said Wendy Villa, associate director of workforce development. “We currently have over 60 interested applicants for the AMT program, and over 85 applicants for the CTW program. For this upcoming semester, we’re hoping to increase the program to allow for two cohorts of each program, doubling the number of current spots.”

PHSC’s overall job placement rate for apprenticeship graduates is between 80-85%, thanks to strong partnership with local companies in Pasco and Hernando counties. Many students transition directly from apprenticeships into full-time roles with these companies, reflecting the program's strong alignment with real-world workforce needs.

“I’m very grateful to Pasco-Hernando State College for the opportunity to excel and gain experience and guidance. The people who run this program, Chris Brantley, Karolyn Anthony and Sean Kessler, have been instrumental in growing my motivation and knowledge, sharing their experiences and working with us every day. These guys really solidified my skills, showing me stuff I didn’t know before,” said Eugene Figueroa, PHSC Apprenticeship Program Alumni.

This year’s achievements were spotlighted at the PHSC Apprenticeship Alumni Dinner, held on August 13, 2025, where students, faculty and industry partners gathered to honor recent graduates. Highlights included:

  • 6 Florida Department of Education Completion Certificates awarded
  • 13 PHSC RTI Certificates presented
  • 3 special awards recognizing contributions:
    • Service & Sawdust Volunteer Award – Johmer Ingram (CTW)
    • Top of the Toolbox Leadership Award – Mariano Rivera (AMT)
    • Golden Hammer Bobcat Award – Zachary Wood (CTW)

“PHSC is proud to celebrate the achievements of our apprenticeship graduates, whose hard work and determination reflect the very best of our college,” said Eric Hall, Ed.D., PHSC president. “These students have embraced a path that combines rigorous training with real-world experience, equipping them to meet the evolving needs of our workforce. Their success shows PHSC’s commitment to expanding opportunity, supporting economic mobility and building stronger communities through career-focused education.”

As demand for skilled workers continues to rise, PHSC remains committed to offering accessible, high-quality pathways to career advancement. To learn more about PHSC Apprenticeship Programs, visit our apprenticeship page.
