Transportation Courses

PHSC’s transportation program provides individual courses and certificates in aircraft dispatching, drone operation and primary flight training. Some courses may apply to an associate degree. To determine the best pathway to success based on their interests and career goals students should consult with an Academic Advisor.

Fall 2024 (2025-1) Individual Course Schedule

FAA Approved Aircraft Dispatcher

Course: NCJ0022 (hybrid)

Online test prep: Sep. 23-Nov. 17 & In-Classroom Instruction at East Campus, Room A-204: Nov. 18-Nov. 26, including Saturday, November 23 and Sunday, November 24
Cost: $4220 

Description: This course will prepare students to sit for the FAA Part 65 Aircraft Dispatcher certification for both the knowledge exam as well as the practical test. This course directly responds to current industry needs, as well as offering an accelerated pathway for students to rewarding, high-wage careers in Aviation with average annual starting salaries of $52,023.

FAA Approved Small Unmanned Aircraft Systems Safety (Drone) Operator

Description: This 7-week course is designed to prepare students to sit for the FAA Part 107 Remote Pilot Knowledge exam to gain industry certification. The curriculum covers all pertinent aeronautical knowledge as outlined by the FAA, augmented with safety practices, and also gives students a sound foundation in the theoretical in order to develop well-informed and responsible remote pilots ready to lead in the sUAS industry.

Primary Flight Training I

Cost: $5913*

Total cost of course is $5913. The Open Door Grant covers (if eligible) $2900. All other required fees above $2900 are covered by the student.

This course comprises required training to obtain the Federal Aviation Administration’s (FAA) Private Pilot Certificate, a pre-requisite to professional pilot training. This course contains Stage 1 (pre-solo flight) in accordance with the Jeppesen Guided Flight Discovery (GFD) syllabus.

It includes:

  • 17 hours of dual flight instruction
  • 4 hours of ground instruction and pre-/post-flight briefings with an FAA-approved flight instructor 
  • Course requirements are met when the student completes their first solo flight. 
  • These hours are based on FAA-approved syllabus minimums, and students will likely exceed these minimum hours. 
  • The costs for these additional flight hours and additional ground instruction are not covered by the course fee. 
  • Student pilots are expected to fly at least 3 flights/week.

Required Course Pre-Requisites: ATT1100

Students must meet the following conditions:

  1. Have or obtain an FAA 3rd Class Medical certificate prior to first flight.
  2. Be a U.S. citizen or have TSA authorization for flight training.
  3. Meet with the Program Manager to verify documentation, review course requirements, and flight training costs.

Primary Flight Training II

This course comprises required training to obtain the Federal Aviation Administration’s (FAA) Private Pilot Certificate, a pre-requisite to professional pilot training. This course contains Stage 2 and Stage 3 training in accordance with the Jeppesen Guided Flight Discovery (GFD) syllabus.

It includes:

  • 13 hours of dual flight instruction
  • 10 hours of solo flight
  • 4 hours of ground instruction and pre-/post-flight briefings with an FAA-approved flight instructor
  • Course requirements are met when the student earns his or her Private Pilot Certificate through the practical test. Students must pass the Private Pilot Airplane Airman Knowledge Test (AKT) before taking the private pilot practical test.
  • The hours above are based on FAA-approved syllabus minimums, and students will likely exceed these minimum hours.
  • The costs for these additional flight hours, additional ground instruction, and FAA designated pilot examiner practical test (“checkride” flight) costs are not covered by the course fee.
  • Student pilots are expected to fly at least 3 flights per week.
